Celebration!

What’s a birthday without a cake? And what’s more fun for a 1 year old than to play with their food?

Deven likes his cake and thinks Birthdays are just Fantastic!

Landon and Mindy

Mindy brought Landon over for some pictures last week. Belated Easter pictures as he’s at that in-between age of 18 months. He was great and I really liked getting Mindy in some photos too. I don’t know why so many parents shy away from being photographed with their children as I think these are the best, most special pictures!

Mindy sent me a little note that I thought I’d share with you:

“I just wanted to say again… Thank you soooo much for taking such BEAUTIFUL pictures of me & Landon. I can’t stop looking at them and my only regret is that I didn’t come and have you do them sooner. You’ve made it extremely difficult 4 me to decide what I want! And it’s not just because Landon is so adoreable either… I’ve never been so “in love” with pictures of him. So, here’s me sendin’ you a big pat on the back! You’re awesome!” – Mindy

All work and no play is no fun

“Can I borrow your daughter for some fun?” is one of those questions that might freak out the average parent. But  then if you know me you know i’m kinda strange and I ask some off the wall questions at times. And in this case I knew what the answer was gonna be.  I asked mom and not dad -just in case I was wrong LOL

The point of the question was I needed a model that wouldn’t get bored like my 5 year old while I worked on some new lighting I wanted to try out. I found a great model in Jackie and I hope to work with her again – she was just great!

Big thanks to Chrissy (mom) and Jackie too. Trenton (pictured below) was great, and Noah, well, he was Noah!

Chrissy brought the hat. I must get some hats! Here’s a sampling of the images.

Jackie!

Jackie!

So if you get asked “Can I borrow your daughter for some fun?”  and it’s me it just harmless fun.  But feel free to freak out anyway! LOL

Lexi and Addison

Life is full of milestones, but few can compare with turning 1. A whole year has passed for Addison and wow, what a year! From being thrust out of a nice warm secure place til now – learning to breathe, eat, see, touch, roll over and now walk and chew food! The first year of life is a big one for everyone in the family of course, but it’s always biggest for the one living it!

So here’s a composite from Addison’s session

Addison isn’t an only child, she has a big sister, Lexi. Lexi was all fun and smiles and a bit of a chatter box too! Here is Lexi’s frame of photos. Both of these are 30 inches long IRL (in real life).

Happy Birthday Georgia Paige!

Has it been a year already? It’s been a busy one for Georgia as she’s learned to walk and eat real food, been growing some beautiful rad hair and teeth – she’s got lots of  ‘em!

If this isn’t cute, then I don’t know what is!

And here’s Georgia Paige about 8 months ago

The New Child Portraiture

Change is inevitable. Change is scary. Sometimes change is resisted and sometimes it’s welcomed with open arms. Digital photography has brought change and much of it has been embraced with great enthusiasm. Film is dead except in a few specialty areas. Polaroid is no longer making ‘instant film’ but I don’t see many weeping over that.

But there is more that has changed than just the technology. The freedom it allows the artist has changed wedding photography and senior photos for sure, but it also offers us the opportunity to change child portraiture. No longer are we locked into the “sit still and smile!” format that can seem to stiff and lifeless.

Rudy came, Rudy played and I photographed him while he was just being himself. I got into his world instead of trying to put him in mine. Have a look at these images and you know something about Rudy -he likes flowers, nature, running, smiling at mom. He’s relaxed and natural, not stiff and pretending. These images are Rudy, the Rudy mom and dad know, not my interpretation of Rudy.
