A tale of gardening, or well, more like horror I guess. I’ve not had a garden for a couple of years but got motivated to do one this year. Usually I have a small war with the local rabbits, and yeah, they lose. About sunset they’ll come out munching around the back yard, so I get out my trusty .22 rifle and rain death down upon the furry creatures of the earth. Being about dark I’ll wait until morning to pick up the carcass, but I do make sure they’re dead and not suffering. I’ve not gone after the critters this year as the seeds have just sprouted (ok, so I was late getting my garden in)
Well, that doesn’t always work. See, something will come by in the middle of the night and drag off the body. Not eat it there, but remove it completely. I assume a cat, but I don’t know. I don’t think I want to know. I just don’t think sleeping in my back yard would be a good idea. But then, I’m still alive so perhaps I’d be safe.
Or so I thought until tonight that is. I go out to water the garden about 7 and I found a dead rabbit. Well, the back half of a dead rabbit that is. Something killed it and made off with the head and front legs, and gutted it too. And there was no blood – not sure if I’d see any blood with it laying on pretty fresh garden dirt.
So I don’t know what’s lurking in my backyard, but it’s getting meaner, hungrier and closer to the house!
